Drop Bars – Examples and Instructions
Drop bars – riding on hoods
Flat Bars – Examples and Instructions
Rapid fire gears
- Trigger Bell points forward and slightly down as normal
- In this case, Trigger Bell has to fit between the movement of the two gear shifters
- The thumb shifter, for example, should swing completely beneath Trigger Bell without touching the brass bell
- It may take a minute or two to find the perfect position for Trigger Bell before securing it into place
Trigger shifters
- If you have brakes that are separate from trigger gear shifters, Trigger Bell needs to be fitted upside down and above the handlebar on the right handlebar grip
- This is because the left handlebar index finger shifter is exactly in the place where Trigger Bell would normally fit on other brake / gear configurations
- Fitting Trigger Bell on the right handlebar grip still allows you to ping Trigger Bell without entirely removing your hand from your handlebar but requires you to move your thumb from gripping your handlebar fully
- As shown by the blue arrow, to secure Trigger Bell, you will need to tighten the strap screw from below, rather than from above
Grip shift or Twisty gears
- With grip shift gears, the part of the handlebar grip where Trigger Bell is normally fitted, rotates as you change gear
- Trigger Bell therefore has to be fitted onto the metal handlebar. Use a small strip of rubber to help improve the grip between Trigger Bell and the metal handlebar
- To make space for Trigger Bell, your brake will need to be moved to create around a 1cm gap between your grip and your brake
- Trigger Bell fits into this gap and is secured as normal
- You will need to stretch further to reach Trigger Bell however Trigger Bell is still safer to use than a traditional bell
Fitting Instructions
Fitting video – flat bars with no gears
- Fitted on your LEFT handlebar GRIP – NOT the metal bar (except trigger shifters and grip shifters)
- Bell points forward and slightly downward (below your brake lever)
- Trigger is on the bottom and can be pinged easily by your thumb while you keep a grip on your handlebars
- Trigger Bell should be imperceptible during normal riding
- DO NOT over tighten the strap – tighten Trigger Bell just enough to stop it slipping or rotating. The Trigger Bell strap has teeth that are designed to strip if Trigger Bell is over tightened, in order to reduce the risk of damaging your handlebar grips.

Specific instructions
Step by step instructions
1. Loosen
Loosen the strap until it fits around your left handlebar grip
- Gently loosen the Trigger Bell strap until you can fit it over your left handlebar GRIP (not the metal bar)
- If required, you can undo the strap completely (for example if you’re fitting Trigger Bell for riding on the hoods on racing handlebars)
- OPTIONAL: Cut off excess strap: You can also cut off any excess strap before fitting so there’s less strap to tighten. Do be careful to smooth off sharp edges and not to cut off too much
2. Attach
Attach to your left handlebar grip and gently tighten screw
- Move Trigger Bell roughly into the correct position on your left handlebar grip
- Trigger Bell should be pointing forwards and underneath your brake and the trigger should be on the bottom
- Gently tighten the strap screw until Trigger Bell is secure but can still be moved
3. Adjust
Test Trigger Bell location and adjust if required.
- Grip your handlebar as if you were riding normally
- Adjust the position of your Trigger Bell to the left and right, and up and down, until:
- The trigger is comfortable to ping with your thumb
- You don’t notice Trigger Bell when you’re gripping your handlebar normally
- In most cases, Trigger Bell will be up against your left hand brake
4. Secure – DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN SCREW
Secure into place and you’re ready for safer pinging.
- Use the hose to secure the loose end of the strap
- Carefully tighten the strap screw until Trigger Bell is secure
- DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN. The Trigger Bell strap has teeth that are designed to strip if Trigger Bell is over tightened. To prevent this tighten Trigger Bell just enough to stop it moving or rotating
